In Prison Programming

OIC delivers a 26-week, 10-module, evidence-based reentry curriculum within Washington State correctional facilities like Olympic Corrections Center. Rooted in lived experience, the program empowered over 180 participants since 2022 to stabilize deficits and build lives worth living through self-discovery, accountability, and service. Key components include in-prison workshops on resume building (with interviewing and job readiness forthcoming), institutional and individual service projects, and community partner events with organizations like Washington Building Trades, House of Mercy, and Renton Technical College. O-UT collaborates with colleges and universities for educational pathways, offers budgeting, finance, credit building, and home ownership preparation, and pairs participants with mentors. Comprehensive support includes one-on-one case management, transitional assistance, ongoing education, and employment/education support. Alumni return to facilitate, strengthening community ties.

Why Choose OIC

Mark A. Brown, O-UT Graduate OCC, June 2024

As the first prison cohort graduate of O-UT, this program reshaped my life. Battling shame and fear post-incarceration, I found hands-on support from relatable mentors like Ginny Burton, who addressed the root of my struggles. O-UT’s curriculum rebuilt my self-worth, leading me to earn an associate’s degree and launch DetailedxMac Mobile Detailing. Now crime-free, in recovery, and reengaged with my family, I’m building a legacy, not just surviving.

Roger Skjelstad OCC, O-UT Graduate June 2024

O-UT transformed me from a former inmate to a Recovery Coach Lead and Certified Peer Specialist. The lived-experience curriculum helped me replace old habits with purpose and hope. With constant support—Zoom sessions, calls, and staff accessibility—I’m now crime-free, in recovery, and advocating for others. O-UT built a network of purpose-driven friends, proving recovery is possible. This program saves lives.

O-UT: the Impactful Journey

Overhaul-Unrelenting Transfiguration (O-UT) was founded in 2022 by Ginny Burton, whose transformation after facing a fourth prison sentence ignited a mission to revolutionize reentry. Determined to break her cycle of incarceration, Burton crafted a process: identifying deficits like abuse, addiction, cessation of education, and broken relationships, dissecting thought patterns, seeking mentors, and implementing change. Recognizing systemic gaps only lived experience could address, she launched O-UT to deliver intentional interventions.

From Vision to Impact: The O-UT Journey

From humble beginnings with community volunteers online in 2022, O-UT’s 26-week curriculum empowered individuals through self-discovery, accountability, and service. By June 2023, O-UT secured a Washington State Department of Corrections contract, and by February 2024, it began operating inside Olympic Corrections Center. Serving over 180 individuals, O-UT has seen remarkable outcomes: only one participant reoffended, yet remains dedicated to retaking the program, reflecting its transformative impact. Engaged graduates achieve 80–90% improvement in deficit areas and 100% stability in housing, employment, and recovery.
Burton’s vision is to redevelop the prison system, making institutions catalysts for change through deliberate interventions. O-UT partners with organizations like Revive, Pioneer Human Services, Laborers’ Local 252, and colleges and universities to provide housing, job training, union jobs, and educational pathways. Alumni return as mentors, leading resume workshops, public speaking, and entrepreneurial ventures, strengthening communities. These partnerships, including academic collaborations, ensure graduates access opportunities to thrive post-release.

Resilient and Rising: O-UT’s Ongoing Mission

Due to current budget challenges, O-UT is committed to serving 200 plus students annually, expanding to facilities that provide social training and rehabilitation, and launching webinars. Rooted in lived experience, O-UT pioneers criminal reform, proving empowered individuals build safer, vibrant communities. Support this movement to reshape reentry and transform lives.
